last night i took my son harry and a friend matt to see hard-fi in brixton academy. i hadn’t realised but billy bragg was supporting so that was a good bonus – he was ranting and protesting as ever…
today i was privileged to get to hear kenda creasy dean present a research day at kings that i crashed. it was based around her work in practising passion. she outlined three dimensions of passion – fidelity (being there); transcendence (great experiences); and communion (relationships). it struck me that groups of friends who were at the gig having a transcendent experience were at least touching on two of kenda’s themes.
kenda showed a very powerful clip from the film thirteen which curiously enough is on the top of our tv waiting to be watched so i am now looking forward to that…
sorry babe, the film on top of the TV is 13 conversations about one thing which is not the same as Thirteen.
doh! well we should add thirteen to the list…
13 Conversations About One Thing is an amazing film…You should definitely watch it!
lol
thirteen is a very interesting film, written by and codirected by a teenager, but its like theyve tried to throw almost everything that could go wrong as a teenager into one person, sure it happens but its still hard to deal with.
some very shocking scenes, but that last scene that kenda likes to use is a corker.
What was the scene that Kenda used?
thirteen is a good film and worth seeing, but it’s not amazing. the pudding is over egged in a holywood style – kidulthood and bullet boy are much more gritty and realistic in terms of london youth. All these films help us to ‘feel’ the struggle of being young and perhaps remember and reflect.
paul – i haven’t seen the film but is was the scene where the girl is challenged about her drug use etc and her mum is basically there for her…
Which two? – which do you think is missing? One of the flaws of “Generation Y” is the failure to recognise how this generation have replaced formal worship with music (and concerts/dance events in particular) for their spiritual experiences.
transcendence and communion
Anyone read the book?
