I lov Sivin’s blog – he came to visit me recently. But there is something conceptually problematic about the idea of Emerging being global, isn’t there?
Greetings from Malaysia, after quite a downpour this morning 🙂
As you know, I kind of did a jump first, fear later thing. So, things are still very open ended right now. I’d be interested to hear from Maggi on the “conceptually problematic about the idea of Emerging being global” bit. I value her wisdom.
for now, we’re just creating a rare “space” where these conversations and concerns may surface. It’s a very local endeavour … with a little global awareness.

if you mean ’emerging’ is a western construct that is in danger of being imposed then yes i see your point – could be a neo colonialism…
but if emerging means connecting people who are engaged in mission in the emerging culture in their context so that they can theologise, re-imagine the world in their context and how the gospel impacts upon it then no… i guess it’s the same double edge that there has always been to mission – contextualisation vs imperialism and all shades in between…
whichever way round, i still really value the connection with and into the global body of christ – i think it enables us to see the face of god or other aspects of the face of god…
