it was great to be at the london launch of living for jesus and justice: daily prayers for radical christians. sally mann hosted with contributions from various others who have written for the collection. there is a wonderful reworking of beattitudes and woes which has become the spine of the rhythm. then there is a daily morning, midday, and evening prayer; a story of an inspiring activist/saint each day of the year and then prays for various occasions like before going on a protest march.
for me i like a range of things i do for a season in prayer. i am currently reading isaiah and using the still app (more about that soon). but i will get on to trying this out for a season before too long. but it’s the sort of thing that will be a good resource for individuals, churches, groups. it is out of the stable of red letter christians uk.
it’s interesting in that regard because an articulation in liturgy is not necessarily what you would expect. but i think it’s a great thing to have done. why? well let me write here what i wrote as an endorsement for the book
It’s so easy for the passion for justice to be channeled into activism whilst neglecting to nurture an inner life that fuels it. Mission spirituality is surely the rhythm of both. This new articulation of longings for a better world in prayers and liturgies along with the offering of memories of those who have gone before to light the road is a wonderful gift in that regard. It’s a great resource for individuals and communities seeking to join in God’s healing of all things, to breathe in before acting out.
this will sit nicely alongside words of hope series by amos trust or some iona community liturgies or some of janet morley’s wonderful prayers and liturgies.
