in flight, iffley, originally uploaded by jonnybaker.

was staying the night in oxford near iffley lock. i got up early and it was drizzling with rain but it was quite a moody morning so in spite of poor light i thought i’d go for a walk by the lock and take the camera. these birds in flight caught my eye. i have heavily cropped and messed around with the levels in this image to get this effect. cool eh?…

I don’t suppose it will be too long until I read about an exhibit on your blog… and the exhibit will be your own 🙂

apologies if my blog post came across as too indulgent. a friend told me as much last night. i think when i have a good photo i just get a bit over excited!!!

I think the photo is fine. Would be interested in how you took it and how much photoshop you did…shutter speed and so on and did you intend to blur the top two birds.

it was a pretty dark morning so i had set the camera on a setting where i could hopefully hold it steady enough – 1/60 sec, f4.5, and iso 800. as for blurring the birds, they were just hovering above the river so i snapped several pictures and then cropped this section from one as i loved the shapes. i then upped the blacks, brightness and contrast in photoshop. so it looks pretty different to the original. if i could plan to capture the blur of the birds or not i’d have taken so long thinking they would have flown away and the moment gone. i didn’t have a tripod with me either. hope this helps…?

Thanks…I am interested in photgraphy and was keen to hear how you did it…You did a good job to get the shots without a tripod and it was quick thinking..
You have a good eye for composition…keep up the snapping!!
