re-imagining worship week at lee abbey in february 07

in case any of you are interested i am leading a week at lee abbey from 19-23 february

re-imagining worship: exploring creativity in personal and corporate worship.

here’s the blurb…

In this week (half term for some), Jonny Baker
looks at how churches can develop a culture of
creativity, especially arts & media, and how to make the traditions
of worship live again. Jonny works for Church Mission Society,
developing and supporting mission and new ways of being church. He is
part of ‘Grace’,
an alternative worship community in St. Mary’s, West London.

the lee abbey programme is here – scroll down the page for that week.

i haven’t been to lee abbey before but have heard wonderful things about it. looking forward to it.

as you can tell from this blog post and the last i am getting my head round what i am up to next term. the other trip i have lined up before easter is a visit to lancaster theological seminary in march where i will be lecturing/training on faithful improvisation: worship and mission in postmodern times (see programme for term here – again sctoll down page)

Sounds intriguing…how might one get some exposure to what you’ll be teching on here in vancouver canada?
the topic of creative worship in my context is something the staff at our multi-congregational church always dialogue through

    these sound great.
still plotting a way to get you to do something like this here. disappointingly, most of the potential plans seem to revolve around winning the lottery.

I’m organizing a improvisational worship experiment Feb 17th, and we’ll be working together with arts/music facilitators from 9 area communities to facilitate a grand, Spirit-led offering. We’ll be employing every element/approach/art form we can think of in order to instigate widespread inclusion. Experimental hip-hop/dance artists from San Diego, Soul-Junk(http://www.myspace.com/souljunkblaster) will be coming up for it to join the party. I’m excited.
I’m very interested in your train of thought re: faithful improvisation. My mind’s been working from that as an imperative for about 10 years now, because of an improv-songwriting group i joined back then. The inherent freedom and inclusion in improv (as an art form) is staggering. It would seem that if it were successfully implemented in communities, there’d be a whole new renaissance, not just alternative, but across the board.. Is this what your workshop will be addressing?
