last night we went to newick bonfire. newick is the village i lived in from the age of 8-18. sussex has a tradition of village bonfire societies that put on the most incredible firework displays every year round november 5. it was the first time i had been back since i left and it was stunning. torchlit processions, parties all round the village, overflowing pubs, and an amazing firework display to cap it all off. the fireworks had gone up a few notches since i was a teenager. they were as good as the ones on the thames for the turn of the millenium… i also bumped into some friends from my teenage years. it’s amazing how going back to a place evokes so many memories.
trip down memory lane
