ben sent me a link to this wonderful stencil of dali’s christ in the gateway of a church in cambridge. what i particularly like about the story is that the initiative for it came from maya the stencil artist and the church were simply open to the idea. and i loved this quote…
This year I have done another stencil relevant to Good Friday, and this time the council can’t f**king touch it.
go girl!
[update: i have decided to add this in as worship trick 66 – i so like the idea. the trick is find an old church doorway (plenty of those), contact a local stencil artists and invite them to come up with a stencil for the doorway.]
[update:broken link]
wonderful work and great to see a vicar who lives in the real world and encourages creativity in new ways!
Reminds me of a Banksy stencil. I love that guy.
I like the site, I like the new ideas, shame about the limited use of the English language though at the end……
Rise above it please, gutter language belongs in it!
another Ben sent that link to you today as well? … what are the chances! 🙂
it would be so cool to see more stuff like this (and that paving slab stencil you posted a few days ago … wicked!)
oops – sorry ben – clearly i know too many bens!! have changed the link…
Your focus is interesting, Andy. Maya has found the church a place of welcome for her talents when they were unappreciated elsewhere. and who knows where that wekcome could lead. But all you can comment on is her ‘gutter language’. I think her choice of words is very appropriate and clearly authentic to her.
Are stencils a common art medium for the exteriors of church buildings in the UK? I love that idea…where can I learn more?
ps, if sensitive to swearing within discussions of church and theology, then don’t ever read my blog
