book on the way – fringe dweller

i am very happy to let you know i have finished writing a new book called ‘fringe dweller’. it will land in february next year (in time for lent)and be the third and latest project of getsidetracked. if you follow the blog you will know how beautiful an object pioneer practice was. fringe dweller will be printed through the same printers so will be equally beautiful. what is it i hear you ask?!

it is a book about jesus the fringe dweller. the term is a nod to john taylor who suggests that christians should be fringe dwellers because they follow jesus who dwelt at the fringes – i picked up on this in imagining mission with john taylor. i also develop the idea in my chapter in being the people of god where i develop an ecclesiology based on fringe dwelling. it’s a devotional meets theology sort of book if that’s possible – clearly it is! it comprises 40 reflections on jesus encounters with people at the fringes. and each encounter has a practice and a liturgy to go with it. i have published a couple of the liturgies on the blog that feature – restory the world and the good samaritan.

it’s a collaborative venture with david cotterill. he is a friend, an amazing pioneer, creative, so i invited him to work with me on it which has been fun.

we have just got to the stage of finishing the writing. i have asked a couple of people who are a bit more scholarly than us to check it out re theology. it is currently being proof read. art work is being done by jon birch which i am loving the direction of – graphic novelesque. in a month or so hopefully i can show you a cover and give you a chance to pre-order which will be a way we raise a bit of money for the print run.

this is partly why my blog has been so quiet – that plus team changes plus my brother’s funeral and setting up a pioneer order (more about that later)! but i am back and intend to get the blog rolling.
