it was 25 years ago that we created the labyrinth that we ran in st paul’s cathedral in lent in early march 2000. it was an extraordinary thing – a journey narrated on headphones with cd walkman. on the path there were various interactive stations. broadly speaking the journey in was a quietening down, a letting go, a shedding; the centre was holy space, a place to be with God; the journey out was to take that encounter back into the world in relationships with planet, others and self. we recorded an album, we ended up doing a cathedral tour in the uk. we published it in the usa in a tin so that groups could set it up themselves and thousands did. it ran multiple times in feltham prison. at greenbelt i remember we were in shock at the length of queue to do it. we created an interactive online version using flash as a kind of digital spirituality (which is sadly no longer supported). see some photos of various versions here including at st paul’s cathedral. it’s fun being reminded of the graphics.

the next grace we are going to run a labyrinth to celebrate using the same stations an soundtrack. the stations won’t be on the path as we have more space – they will be round about. but the soundtrack will be the same. if you have a phone and headphones do bring them with you as we no longer have cd walkman. we’ll have spares so no problem if not. love to see you there.
we have put the tracks and leaders guide online free for anyone to use. please go ahead for any non commercial use.
