i am a man and on not getting ordained

so i have been away for a few days on a scottish isle – more about that when i get round to editing photos. it was an amazing time. there was no internet or phone which was wonderful to have an enforced break from connectivity. though you go away for a few days and bin laden is dead and chelsea are back in the hunt for the premiership!

straight back into a busy week so the blog will drift back into life…

but first up harry is in chicago and has performed at the home of slam poetry with his 'i am a man' poem which looks like it went down a storm.

and andy campbell is bound to stir up some thinking around pioneers and ordination with his post for why having done three year's training he has decided not to get ordained. sadly this sort of story is all too familiar as the church tries to open up the way for newness, recognises the need for different kind of leaders but the old ways have such a gravitational pull that it is hard to shift the imagination. i will come back to this post i am sure but it's certainly why a) we have got involved in training pioneers and b) cms are set up so that pioneers can be ordained into a mission community. there's a big discussion beginning in the comments so head over and join in.

As a pioneer minister with the Venture FX scheme in the Methodist Church I am suprised and saddened when I talk to Anglican Pioneers at how many hoops they have to jump through. There is much that I love about the Anglican Church but it really seems to me that they should trust their pioneers more and genuinely set them free to minister in challenging and creative ways.
