dungeness is in the south east of england. it is officially classified as desert because of its aridity. the shoreline has changed over the years and presumably where the sea used to come, the shingle is littered with boats, old fishing materials and huts, rusted engines all battered by the elements. everything is just left abandonned. it's a post apocalyptic vibe! so i have tried to make a set of photos capture that bleak feel in black and white…
i went there with dean, nic and james on a bitter day when by the evening snow blizzards had come in hence the dark and moody sky in the shots. i do have some colour shots to sort through that i'll add to the set at some point.
Nice shots Jonny – you’ve really captured the atmosphere of the place (or rather, lack of atmosphere). I went there once and was struck by how God-forsaken it felt. Really depressing! I vowed never to go back – but then I doubt anyone ever does! Glad you made it out alive…
So, I’m not the only person in the world who likes taking photos of sheds after all!
desert? Come to Australia Jonny, we’ll show you some deserts that go on for ever and can just swallow you up … beautiful shots though.
Well Derek Jarman liked it enough to live there, so I guess it must have some qualities.
