US conversation about emerging church part 1

The emerging church is a place of conversation and
dialogue and movement. Where that’s going to go, we don’t know. We’re
figuring this out together. We don’t have an agenda of what it looks
like at the end of the road. We just want to gather up people who are
on this road, who want to go together on it. (tony jones)

I am currently taking masters classes at Fuller Theological Seminary and my current class has had much discussion about the “Emerging Church.” It seems that it has not been clearly defined yet and is proving to be a very “hot” topic of discussion with strong opinions about the pros and cons.

I am taking the same classes with Greg Huntington (mentioned above). I’m intrigued by the Emerging Church model, especially the ways in which it represents the early church in Acts. The biggest challenges I see, however, is with the lack of leadership protocal/definition amongst Emerging Church communities. How is this issue addressed by those involved in such communities?

I am also at Fuller, and recently our class discussed the Emerging Church. I was encouraged how the EC reaches the lost where they are at. I need to consider the implications of “abandoning” the history, lessons and structures of the existing church. The Reformation seemed to reject everything from the Catholic traditions, which had consequences both good and bad.
