i finally got to go to the presence exhibition at st paul’s cathedral. it’s a series of contemporary images of christ. great to see paul hobbs martyr in there along with others. overall the exhibition was a bit disappointing though – badly lit, not brilliantly set out, spilt across two halfs of the cathedral, and frankly some of the art wasn’t fantastic. however there was a bill viola installation which for me was the highlight. it’s a video installation called the messenger i’ve added these two pics to the art pics album. basically there is a man who floats slowly to the surface of water from the depths with eyes shut. upon breaking the surface there is an amazing sound, his eyes open – it’s quite an astonishing moment, then he slowly descends back to the depths. we’ve been spoilt in london with an abundance of viola in the last year!
