They tell us that, on average, every person in America consumes every day 1.9 plastic bottles, one aluminium can and, most remarkably of all, 3.4 plastic bags. And there must be many people, such as newborn babies, who don’t consume that much, indicating that others must consume more.
And the good news? If we want to reduce the amount of waste in the world, there is no shortage of low hanging fruit. What proportion of the aforementioned bottles, cans and bags are recycled? What proportion could be? And that’s even before anyone starts to think about cutting their consumption.
