design anarchy

i always look forward to adbusters end of year big ideas magazine – a bumper issue. i finally managed to get hold of it this week and there is lots of thought provoking stuff as ever. the art of slow protest includes a suggestion for doing the jesus walk…

i realise that i haven’t blogged about kalle lasn’s design anarchy either. this is a huge fat book that i think is amazing. it condenses many of the themes of adbusters over the years into one huge volume. it’s available from somewhere like magma. my favourite ever adbusters issue was no 37 called design anarchy and seems to have been the inspiration for the book.

Jonny, this is probably very churlish– but anyhow. It kinda is an extension of the conversation we were having about Adbusters anyway– but this book sucks, it’s terrible.
    Two things for now:
    1
Shouldn’t you be suspicious of anything that has to tell you it’s ‘anarchic’?
Isn’t anarchy more convincing as a verb?
    2
Yet again, another example of Adbusters selling a product, there’s nothing critical about that– just business as usual, an exercise brand extension.
    Sorry, rant over– for now.

adbusters no 37 is my favorite also(followed by madpride/madworld). it took me a little while to fully appreciate this book. i wasn’t sure what to expect but it is beautifully realized art, i love it. kalle is brilliant. it includes many bits of past issues of adbusters which was nice for the ones i no longer have. (nice selection – cinematic orchestra, burial, apparat, radiohead, pinch, unkle)
