grace was fun last night. we had a visitor – philip roderick leading us in contemplative prayer. the unifying thread was really the use of the body in prayer with posture and so on and how that can help pray. we did a breathing exercise thing, a way of praying the lord’s prayer and a cloister walk along with some chants and things. time whizzed by. some of it was quite new to us.
and it’s always good to have fresh ideas and voices adding into the mix. not sure what pictures steve or adam took but there was a great photo opportunity with all the grace punters with their hands in the air looking like a bunch of keen charismatics – hahahaha! can’t wait to see that
one creative moment was that we had a problem with a projector in that we couldn’t get it to reverse the image to back project. anyway rather than re-jig everything to front project someone had the bright idea of using a small mirror to reflect the image – simple idea but good one.
yep, steve’s photo definitely reveals the unpublicised side of Grace’s spiritual tendencies. Where were the guitars, though?
That sounds a bit weird mate. As far as I understand it the emerging church is trying to make sense of the culture we live in whilst giving space for seekers to participate reflect and dialogue. At headspace I fear that if we become too ‘innovative’ then we’ll appeal to those on the periphery of church but we’ll seem even less culturally relevant than a bog standard service to anyone who has had v little contact with church.
Appreciate your blog mate, keeps me thinking and laughing. Cheers
