i was in rome for the weekend on a conference at the invitation of street psalms. street psalms are similar to what we do – an order who network, encourage and free up leaders in urban settings who are working for the peace of the city. it was great to meet people in their network, reflect on peace making in troubled times. it was interesting too to learn more about the theology of the forgiving victim with james alison. in essence that is about christ as the forgiuving victim which opens up a theology of a god who is in rivalry with nothing and in whom there is no violence. i am still processing all that…
but while i was there i lucked out in that the giro d’italia finished on the sunday afternoon when i didn’t have a conference session. i had followed the remarkaable day’s events befopre when simon yates overturned the lead in extraordinary fashion to take the pick jersey. so it was pretty speacial seeing him bring it home into rome. i managed to get him in a few shots too. if you have tried photographing a peleton you’ll know that isn;t straightforward!
there is an album of photos here – roma
