on unknowing

chris  goan has written a lovely piece on standing in a place of (un)belief. the journey of faith has many stages and in some ways my experience is that the older you get the less you know! i remember mike yaconelli saying many years back that theology brings us to the shore of mystery… if you are in a place of unknowing have a read.

It’s a beautifully written letter by Archbishop Rowan and an excellent apology for academic theology – if all that massive understanding possessed by Rowan enables him to distill something of such simplicity and yet awe then his learning was clearly time well used. As commentators on the link have written, “it is not the complete answer, yet what six year old could understand a complete answer?” I would add; what adult could understand a complete answer? There’s mystery and space to wonder in what Rowan has written. Thanks Rowan.
I’d also add that the story makes a more interesting read on Lulu’s dad’d own blog; http://www.alexrenton.com/index_files/Page501.htm
