knocked off path

a couple of weeks back i was headed off along the front in eastbourne to take photos with my new nd110 filter. it was a very grey sky but i wanted to play with the new toy. but after a couple of those shots, rain kicked in so i ended up sheltering under a breakwater a long way from any other shelter for quite a while. none of the filter shots worked anyway! there's a couple on flickr but they are too grey. in the end i gave up and got soaked. but while there i put on a macro lens and took a few photos of stuff that was literally hanging around me. there's a set of them here. creativity often happens when we get knocked off the path we're on. it also reminded me that you can take photos in any conditions – low light, rain, fog. i think it's a mistake to just take a camera out when it seems 'fine'. just get out and see where it leads…

Completely agree! You know I’ve been wrestling with the idea of writing a book about Photography as Spiritual Discipline. I think your story would be great. Ever thought about making a photography book teaching how to use it as a Spiritual Discipline individual and communal? I’d love to chat if ever you get a chance.
