just back from a fab holiday in croatia. our usual family holiday is beach, sun and surf. but at some point last year we said we would do something different. after a few searches on the internet and a few conversations we decided to book into an activity holiday in croatia via hidden croatia. we usually do two weeks but because of other things we wanted something a bit shorter and this enabled us to splash out a bit more…
it was a full on week with kayaking and rafting down a few of croatia’s magnificent rivers, cycling (50k with a few big climbs), and visiting plitvice lakes which is a stunning national park. we stayed nearby in korana village in rooms in a croatian family’s home. 5 other families were on the same week as us. our itinery roughly is on huck finns site – they are the company who provided the guides for the week. it was a totally different kind of holiday. i was in croatia last shortly after the war running a holiday club for young people – though that time i was on the coast. croatia is a beautiful country – i’m sure it won’t be our last visit (i’m actually headed back in april/may next year to take part in a conference for young leaders).
of course i took lots of photos – for the first time i filled my card. i have distilled them down to about 60 and put them in a set on flickr of course. i have left in several of people jumping off rocks and things as they will probably be interested to see themselves (in case you were wondering why i hadn’t edited those down a bit more). the shot here is joel jumping over a waterfall that we also kayaked down!
we were so busy that we didn’t see a newspaper, tv, radio, or internet and the laptop stayed at home. i did manage to read one book – blink (by the guy that wrote the tipping point) which is brilliant and i’ll no doubt blog about at some point. it’s actually kind of weird to be back blogging…
Hi Jonny. Looks like we’ve both had fab summer hols! Great pics on your flickr account. Would love to see the others too. Might book this in the future! Did wonder if I was reading the right blog – you didn’t check the internet? Am impressed! See you at Greenbelt. Rich and I will be there with young peeps from Kingston.
