i have noticed my blog on a few peoples computers over the last year. whilst it looks fab on my powerbook (imho), some things are quite difficult to read on other computers, particularly the text in the sidebars. so… i have gone for a redesign to make the blog easier to read – white text on blue in the sidebars and charcoal text on white in the main bit (the red and sandy backgrounds have been ditched). i still have the old designs so i can switch back. let me know what you think…. is it easier to read?
yes – cleaner looking – (a technical term I’m sure)
it is easier to read and looks good.
I am interested in how many people are actually reading your blog from a rss reader or from a web browser…
I’ve just moved to a new blogspace and am trying to get my layout easy to read, but wonder how important the browser layout is nowdays…
Yes, easier and more up to the minute, IMHO. I do use RSS, but often click through to the blog, esp. if it’s a worship trick or some such design thing.
ooh sir – easy to read sir, is it sir? is it?
Looks fine to me. I use both RSS and browser for your blog.
Minor comment is I have to scroll right to read all of the right hand column on 800 x 600 display.
I take it the blue is a kind of Chelsea thing going on is it.
Have a great 2005.
i always thought it looked good. but then again, i always viewed it through my powerbook. maybe you should have a special powerbook only version?
Can’t see any obvious difference – have you changed it back? Its appearing as red at 3.15pm on Monday?
Main text has been OK – I have always had to adjust to the larger text setting to read your sidebars – and thats on a 21″ PC screen. White in green is said to be the best combination foe ease of reading.
simon, i’m using mozilla firefox and although my monitor is hr wide screen, when set at 800×600 i dont have that issue.
perhaps your monitor doesnt take into account the right scroll bar… who knows.
Monday 4.40pm and it looks the same as it ever did? A bit West Ham.
Am I looking at a different site?
Looks quite fresh to me, in the new blue.
It’s QPR blue and white in Camino but the same as ever in Safari.
Confused but it’s nice in the hoops.
Aha its 8.15pm and now it appears in glorious Chelsea blue – but still with the small font size. Perhaps the listed sub-items would be clearer without the underlining – but the blue is much clearer
Yes! Thank you!
I am very behind technically- high speed dialup, no RSS use and just this week getting a flat screen monitor on my PC (no I am not a mac user, sorry). I wouldn’t know how to use all the bells and whistles. I take comfort that Maggi and I seem to be on the same page!

The new colors make your always colorful content more readable…excellent.
Much more readible.
Looks great.
have been away since the redesign visiting relatives. just back – thanks for all the comments… blue wasn’t especially for chelsea – just the same colour as the old header. though nice to see chelsea top of the premiership at the start of 2005! i might try the sidebar text slightly larger though i personally like it small. i think most people using newsreaders still check in if there is a good post… that’s the way i use them at least. so i think design is still important.
There is defiantly an improvemnt in contrast between background and txt, im currently looking at thid from my father in laws PC and it is easier to read in crappy IE, however i never had any problems on my mac with either safari or firefox and personally i prefered the old design, it was very warm and inviting (wierd choice of words i know!!) It seems to be too contrasting! I’d also suggest having it in Liverpool colours but i doubt that will happen will it Jonny!! 😉
Hi
now I have the nice blue colours. I love it. easier on my eyes 🙂
more importantly the content is great. challenging! we need that! Lord I need that.
thanks
Jonny, it looks great and reads a lot better. All the best for 2005.
hey, i can not tell a difference. why is the change not registering on some of ours?
ok. i’m a dummy. just needed to hit refresh.
looks good. i did like the sandy thing you had going on though.
