if you are interested in the american emergent convention and what’s happening, desertpastor, bob carlton, annaaven, paradox and chrismc are blogging…. bob quotes these highs and lows from day 1:
Things That Made The Day
*conversations with folks who are also on the road that I am on & hearing their struggles
*seeing people I’ve gotten to know in the last year, either via the web or thru emergent
*Jim Wallis’s brave prophetic voice
*talking with people doing courageous ministries hand-to-mouth
*wifi – did I miss this in the creation story, because it is surey work of divine creator
Things That Made Me Go Huh
*the predominately male hero worship model that still seems to pemeate faith communities
*the creeping commercialization of the whole pomo/emergent thing
*gay bashing among a generation of people who have clearly been taught an intolerance which is totally inconsistent with the grace & mercy of God
i am troubled by the things that make him go huh – emerging church should be completely different on all of these things. if it isn’t what the **** is going on?! but i am also not too surprised …..
jonny – i’m troubled as well. i’m hoping we don’t find the same things in nashville….
Hey guys, I also am blogging and posting pics:

Actually, I would strongly disagree with what makes him go huh. I am talking to more people than most are, and I haven’t run into that at all.
that’s good to hear….
I’m concur with Benjy. I didn’t hear any gay-bashing at all, and I was onsite a LOT. Bob may have encountered an isolated incident, which would have been unfortunate. Come to think of it, one of our Paradox team members told me of an incident during Tony Campolo’s seminar:Struggling With the Gay Issue.” He made a point of stressing, however, that the seminar was populated by at least 50% NPC (National Pastor’s Convention) delegates. Perhaps this should be considered as a factor (although it certainly doesn’t justify the bashing).
that is also very good to hear – thanks for the comments guys…
