psalms 1

grace this saturday is the first of two services looking at psalms. in the first we are going to be looking at lots of psalms and the range of moods/themes/liturgy in the hymnology (the range of language seems a lot wider than many of our hymns books today!). then the second we’ll be bringing our own psalms (songs/poetry/film/tracks that function as psalms for us or that we create) …. and we hope that lots of people will take part in the second service or it will be very short! we’re also lining up to run a grace lent blog again where someone from the grace community will post a reflection on the blog each day of lent. i’ll let you know the url on ash weds…

jonny, it may be a little late to get hold of it before saturday, but are you familiar with a book called ‘Psalm Now’ by Leslie Brandt? It’s a thoughtful paraphrase of the Psalms that sets them in a contemporary context – I have used it often in worship – it’s worth a look even if you can’t get it before saturday. You can find it on Amazon and I would be surprised if you couldn’t get it via a large catholic bookshop – hope it goes well on Saturday. (ISBN 0-570-03230-X)
