today the anglican report mission shaped church is being discussed at general synod. pray it is received well.
i was interviewed for radio 4’s today programme this morning. the interview was earlier in the week and i was asked several questions about the church and its future, mission shaped church and all that. in all it probably took 20 minutes. anyway on the programme this morning they picked one soundbite where i basically said that spirituality is on peoples agenda but institutional church isn’t and that was all they used…. what was particularly amusing about it was that it was cut between a recording of a church singing a chorus/worship song and some singing in tongues!!!! making me sound like i was at that church. i got a text from someone who heard me on it (i was hoping no one was listening) saying
it sounded as if you were part of the charismatic knees up!
o well… i put it down to god’s sense of humour.
I must have just missed it, by a couple of minutes. Should have dawdled in the shower. But for all you that missed it like me, you can still hear it here:

: )
jonny – I heard it and had to smile – I guessed it was all cobbled together and knowing a little of how the whole editorial thing goes (having been a victim of it on several occasions!) I had a giggle when you were followed by some guy singing ‘can you ride a honda?’ – I just assumed that it was all part of your remit since I’m sure that you get around to some weird joints in your CMS role . . . . I have to say I did have a slight shudder at how de ja vou (?) the piece felt – quite 80’s really – now, where’s my copy of Mission Praise? . . . .
Huh, a voice to go with the face. You don’t sound like I’d always imagined you would 🙂
quite 80s sums it up exactly hadge….
Yes, Jonny, the Brueggemann prayer is from the book posted on the blog. It’s great value!
…Indeed, the 1980’s: big hair, Wham and body-popping
The church: big conferences, Wimber and the house church 2 step.
…do people remember the grief and struggle to get these things in the church? Do people realise the grief and struggle to move on from them now?
damn, missed it… jonny in full on dave bilbrough mode. Oh well, at least I got to see Phil out of Phil and John play guitar last night! :o| …I was sure Pete Gilbert was going to appear and do some escapology at one point.. ;o)
